The project aims to explore the possibilities of control of texture mapping of objects contained in IFC files. To do this, the researchers are developing an application programme that reads IFC model data and provides the user with a mapping table that allows aligning of the retrieved relevant IFC data to any chosen set of image or pattern files. The output is a texture library linked to the model’s geometry and information.

Development phases:
1) Programme application based on IfcOpenShell library, produces texture-enriched DAE files importable into game engines (virtual reality);
2) Second programme application re-integrates original IFC properties into the game engine;
3) Third programme application integrates IFC-XML supported format, seeking to exploit IFC and texture information in Building Simulation Modelling (BSM).
