The CompiTEC projects (CompiTEC Matériaux and CompiTEC SpongeCities) are intended to develop and deepen the expertise available at the iTEC Institute in the following areas:

  • mechanical analysis and numerical modelling of new and existing building materials, using reliable and comprehensive laboratory tests and measurement techniques, from the material scale (specimens) to the structural scale;
  • 'sponge' cities that are capable of managing the quality and quantity of water using various techniques (including those involving the creation of green spaces) and controlling the temperature in the surroundings of buildings and living spaces at the scale of individual plots of land;
  • exploration of the structural applications of semi-finished products based on basalt fibres, mainly in hybrid elements with other materials, from structural analysis and dimensioning to structural details.

These activities will be useful for a range of further research and development activities at the Smart Living Lab.
